We Built CloudNest Because We Were Drowning in Our Own Cloud Bills
Founded in Amsterdam in 2019 by two ex-AWS solutions architects who had watched too many great engineering teams burn out managing infrastructure instead of building products.
The Problem We Couldn't Stop Thinking About
In 2018, CloudNest co-founders Joris van der Berg and Lena Müller were consulting for mid-market companies across Europe, helping them migrate to the cloud. Every single engagement ended the same way: the migration was a success, the cloud bill was a disaster, and the engineering team was spending 40% of its time on infrastructure firefighting instead of shipping code. The tools that existed were built for either individual developers or enterprise teams with 30-person platform engineering departments. Nobody was building for the 8-to-50-person engineering organization running serious production workloads across two or three clouds. So in early 2019, Joris and Lena left consulting, incorporated in Amsterdam, and started building CloudNest from a spare bedroom on Prinsengracht.
SOC 2 Type II Certified From Day One of Enterprise Sales
When our first enterprise customer asked for our SOC 2 report in 2021, we had 90 days to get it done. We shipped the certification and then built the compliance automation into the product itself — because we realized every one of our customers was going to face the same pressure. Today, CloudNest's compliance posture dashboard is one of our most-used features.
